The End of 2016

Tonight marks the last day of 2016. It's been a year filled with things that I rather hope never to go through again. With the election and the protests and rioting that came with Donald Trump winning. There were plenty of good people that died and plenty of pain and death. I hope that 2017 is better and that there's some hope. As a Druid I hope for this just as anyone that's a Druid.

Here's to the start of a new year.

Birthday and Learning Druidry (5 Months)

Today marks my 37th birthday and five months that I've been learning Druidry. I've really enjoyed the whole experience and I'm going to continue with this. I just love the fact that people are included and there's none of this damn racism that I find in other paths. I'm also practicing Norse religion, though, as I've mentioned before, I don't call myself a pagan. I look forward to continuing down this path and growing.

Getting Ready for Alban Arthan

Since this month is December it's time to start getting ready for Alban Arthan. Alban Arthan is known as Yule, or the Winter Solstice. The Celts viewed this as the last feast holiday before deep winter began. It's a time that the sun is further away from the earth but the sun is coming back and the warm days will come with it. On the other side of the world the beginning of summer comes upon and they get to enjoy the warm weather.

The sun god is born on this day and the journey towards him mating with the goddess begins. After Alban Arthan, I will start thinking about Imbolc, or the first spring festival. Since I'm also honoring the Norse holiday known as Midwinter I will be lighting a candle for each of the twelve days, leaving my altar out for a week, and putting things away. I hope that you all will have a good Alban Arthan.

Why I Don't Call Myself a Pagan

So this post is something that I never thought that I would be writing and with good reason. For 25 years I've viewed myself as a pagan. However, with racism coming into the pagan community, and really not a lot of people doing anything about it, I find that I can't call myself a pagan anymore. I'm still learning Druidry but I don't feel like I can call myself a pagan. I don't mind the Druid label but I will not be calling myself a pagan.

Until the pagan community, as a whole; stamps out these racist heathens and even stamps out those pagans that are showing their racist colors, then I will not be a part of the pagan community. I would rather stay to myself than to call myself a pagan. That will keep my mind sane and calm.

Meditation

One of the things that I always tell people is that meditation is always a useful tool that can help you develop. I meditate every day, part of my spiritual practice that I do in the morning. Meditation is more than just clearing your mind, it's about putting yourself in a better place. It's about draining away all the stress that your going through and getting some peace back in your mind.

Doctors have proven that meditation can decrease the chances of a heart attack, can lower your stress levels and help to lower your anxiety. The problem is that meditation is considered a New Age thing and not something that logical people take part in. I believe that meditation is an important tool that can help you in your daily practice and that's the most important thing that anyone can start having.

New Moon (November 2016)

Tonight was the New Moon, a time to honor the dark goddesses no matter which path that you follow. I decided that, instead of honoring the Morrigan, that I would honor Hecate. I just love her as I love all the dark goddess out there. Here's a photo of the altar.

I hope that you all had a blessed New Moon.

Learning Druidry and Druidric Meditation (4 Months)

Last week and yesterday I marked four months learning Druidry and doing Druidic meditations. I haven't done things the way that they're supposed to be done but I've done the Sun path three times. I started with Lammas and have done Mabon and Samhain. The main reason for this lack of doing any druidic meditations is due to the Housing Authority doing their thing, taking their sweet time. I just couldn't focus.

However, I still mark the time that has passed and I'm going to get back into doing these things. I even got a journal just for the Druid path that I'm doing. It's perfect for the use that I want to use it for and I'm happy to have it. This also signals that the troubles that we were having were over and I can now focus on my spirituality and not on housing. That's another reason for this blog, things have died down and I can now move on.

I think that I'm going to enjoy the remainder of my first year learning Druidry.

I Stand with Standing Rock

One of the things that I've come to understand during the last four months that I've been learning this is that you have to care about other people and you have to understand where they're coming from. Standing Rock has been in the news for the last couple of months due to the Dakota Access Pipeline, which Native Americans believe is going to go right through their ancient burial grounds and pollute the water for them and many others.

They are demanding that the government respect their treaty rights, which I totally understand. My great grandmother left the reservation back in the 1800's, which violated the law. Indians couldn't leave the reservation until the early 1920's. Standing Rock means a great deal to many people, including Druids like myself. As someone who has seen the ugly side of Indian hate, this just makes me sad and upset.

If I could go out there, I would. However, I can't. However, I will continue to pray to the gods that they protect them as much as they can. I think that's the most important thing that can be done.

Welcome to the Grove

So this is the first post for the Geekie Druid and I'm really happy that I've started this blog. I think that Druids should be out, and about, and visible. So this blog is to help those out that are learning about this path and what this path means to me. I will be posting all sorts of things, which make up my daily life. Thanks everyone for coming on here and reading.
